The Modern View of Atomic Structure
The atomic structure is based on:
- Charge: Charge of Proton = +1.602 × 10 − 19 C; Charge of Electron = − 1.602 × 10 − 19 C
- Mass: 1 atomic mass unit (amu) = 1.66054 × 10 − 24 g
Proton mass: ~ 1.0073 amu
Neutron mass: ~ 1.0087 amu
Electron mass: ~ 5.486 × 10− 4 amu
- Size: Nucleus: ~ 10− 4 Å where 1 Angstrom (Å) = 10− 10 m
Normal diameter of an atom is 1 to 5 Å
