Number of Atoms and Moles: Solutions

Question 1:

Calculate the number of H atoms in 0.5 mol of C6H12O6

Solution Q1:

Number of H atoms = 0.5 × 6.02 × 1023 × 12 = 36 × 1023 = 3.6 × 1024

Question 2:

How many oxygen atoms are in (a) 0.75 mol Ca(NO3)2

Solution Q2:

Number of O atoms = 0.75 × 6.02 × 1023 × 6 = 27.09 × 1023 = 2.7 × 1024

Question 3:

How many moles of C6H5OH that contain 1.5 × 1024 C atoms?

Solution Q3:

Number of moles × 6 × 6.02 × 1023 = 1.5 × 1024 ⇒ Number of moles = 15 / 36.12 = 0.41
